The Palestinian and Lebanese resistance movements Hamas and Hezbollah have hailed the October 7, 2023, Operation Al-Aqsa Flood as a historic turning point in the Palestinian struggle, saying its consequences continue to shape the regional landscape in favor of the peoples of the region in their confrontation with Israel.
In a statement marking the third anniversary of the operation on Wednesday, Hamas said Al-Aqsa Flood has become a “historic and proud milestone” in the Palestinian people’s ongoing struggle and a symbol of “a major national epic and a legitimate act of resistance.”
The movement also stressed that the consequences of the operation are still unfolding and continue to reshape the regional landscape in favor of the region’s peoples as they confront the occupiers.
Separately, Hezbollah said in a statement that the operation has brought renewed attention to the Palestinian cause after years of efforts to marginalize it through political compromises and normalization.
“Those who understand the justifications and motives behind the Flood ultimately conclude, through a series of arguments and evidence, that the Flood was a courageous, qualitative, natural, justified, and legitimate act of resistance,” it said.
The group said the consequences of the operation extended beyond the Gaza Strip and continued to affect the wider region, the Palestinian cause, and international affairs.
“The situation remains open to developments whose repercussions extend beyond the strip to the future of the entire region, the Palestinian cause, and international security and peace,” the statement said.
Hezbollah also argued that three years of war has failed to produce a decisive outcome in favor of Israel and its allies, saying Tel Aviv has not succeeded in eliminating Hamas, other Palestinian resistance factions, or the people of Gaza.
The resistance group also pointed to international demonstrations in support of Palestinians, saying Al-Aqsa Flood has brought the Palestinian cause and questions of human rights to the forefront of public debate.
Operation Al-Aqsa Flood “revealed the greatness of the Palestinian people, the strength of their will, and the steadfastness of their resilience in confronting the Israeli killing machine,” it said.
The statement also criticized the international community and its institutions for failing to protect Palestinian rights and uphold their stated commitments to freedom and justice.
Hezbollah renewed its support for Palestinian resistance factions and called for unity among them, urging people around the world to defend human rights and justice.
It also warned regional governments against “silence and appeasement” toward Israel and its allies.
“The will of peoples, when they make effective use of the forces of transformation, remains capable of shaping the present and creating the future,” the statement added.
