Silence on US-Israeli crimes
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi says, remaining silent in the face of US-Israeli crimes amounts to complicity in violence. Gharibabadi made the remark on the occasion of the International Day against Violence. He said the world is witnessing the most blatant forms of state violence by the US and the Israeli regime. The deputy foreign minister said Washington and Tel Aviv are putting the security and lives of nations at risk through military aggression, civilian killings and the destruction of infrastructure. October 2 marks the International Day of Non-Violence, established by the United Nations in 2007 to promote peace, tolerance and the use of non-violent means to resolve conflicts.
Yemen rejects Saudi claims
Yemen’s foreign ministry has rejected the Saudi accusation that Sana’a has targeted the holy city of Medina. The ministry says Riyadh is not qualified to administer the two holiest mosques in Islam, which are the Great Mosque of Mecca and the Prophet’s mosque in Medina. The Yemeni foreign ministry said such Saudi allegations were leveled after confidential meetings held in a country in the region between the Israeli regime and the regime in Riyadh. Earlier, chief of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, Mahdi al-Mashat, rejected the Saudi accusation, saying Riyadh is responsible for any attack on Mecca, Medina, and other holy sites. Mahdi al-Mashat said the Saudi regime’s latest false accusation reflects its unprecedented state of desperation after having failed to achieve its goals in Yemen. Saudi Arabia said on Thursday that Yemeni forces targeted a power plant in Medina.
France student protests
400 schools remain closed in the country as fresh protests have been held, including in Rennes. This is the fourth day of protests in France. Over the past days, high school students set fires and clashed with police. Injuries have been reported mainly from hurled objects but also from police-fired projectiles. According to the Ministry of the Interior, around two thousand people were arrested on Thursday alone. The students’ grievances range from overloaded timetables and overcrowded classes to insufficient teachers and unbearable temperatures during heat waves earlier this year.
