Gazans shot at, beaten, attacked by dogs in Israeli Al-Naqab prison: Prisoners' Media Office

Israeli guards have shot, beaten, and unleashed dogs on Palestinians abducted from the Gaza Strip and held in the Al-Naqab prison, also known as the Negev prison, in occupied Palestine.

Palestinian detainees from Gaza suffered wounds inflicted by rubber bullets as well as broken ribs during a violent Israeli raid inside the Al-Naqab prison recently, the Prisoners’ Media Office said on Wednesday, citing reports.

In the raid, which took place around two weeks ago, one detained doctor from Gaza was struck by three rubber bullets, and another Gaza detainee suffered broken ribs after Israeli forces repeatedly hit him with their batons.

Israeli forces also released dogs on the prisoners, forcing them to lie face down on the prison floor, and assaulted them with batons and rubber bullets, according to the Prisoners’ Media Office.

Several Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip were wounded during the violent Israeli raid inside the Al-Naqab prison, the report said.

The Prisoners’ Media Office called for urgent international intervention to stop the Israeli attacks on detainees at the Al-Naqab prison and to hold those responsible accountable.

The new information emerged approximately two weeks after the raid, amid continuing Palestinian reports of assaults, torture, and collective punishment inside Israeli prisons.

Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi said the renewed Israeli raids and resulting injuries demonstrated the extent of the suffering endured by Palestinians inside Israeli prisons.

Mardawi said testimonies emerging from Israeli prisons concerning torture and abuse required a strong response in support of the detainees to hold Israeli officials responsible for the human rights and prisoners' rights violations committed against them.

Israeli forces' raids, beatings, and punitive measures inside Israeli detention facilities, especially against Palestinians abducted from Gaza, have been reported repeatedly by Palestinian prisoners’ organizations.

The Palestinian prisoners’ organizations have called on international rights groups to defend the Palestinian detainees against Israeli violations and to investigate the dire conditions and mistreatment of Palestinian prisoners held in custody by Israeli forces.

Palestinian detainees report severe conditions, medical neglect in Israeli prison

A Palestinian prisoners’ advocacy group says detainees at an Israeli prison have reported severe weight loss, poor living conditions, repeated raids and inadequate medical treatment.

The news from the Al-Naqab prison followed separate reports by the Prisoners’ Media Office of systematic abuse at the underground Rakefet detention facility.

The Prisoners’ Media Office said on Saturday that prison officials had ordered the isolation of one prisoner from each prison cell before subjecting them to torture and severe beatings.

Israeli forces reportedly targeted one detainee while spraying the others in the room with gas and firing rubber bullets toward them during such raids.

The latest Israeli raid at Rakefet facility lasted approximately 15 minutes and took place without warning or any explanation given to the detainees.

The Gaza prisoners held at the facility were also deprived of sufficient food and access to sunlight, according to the report.

The detainees were then forced by Israeli forces to continue wearing wet clothes, and were not allowed to pray, read, or recite the Holy Quran.

The prisoners who were held in this closed facility were even deprived of sunlight and of knowing the time of the day.

The Prisoners’ Media Office called for immediate international action to help end the inhumane torture and abuse of Gaza detainees in Israeli custody.
