US drone destroyed
Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps says it has shot down a US MQ1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz. In a short statement, the IRGC said the air defense system of its aerospace force targeted and destroyed the drone in western parts of Hormuz. Iran’s armed forces have shot down scores of American drones and other aircraft, including MQ-9 Reapers, since the imposed US-Israeli war on Iran began in February. Some days ago, Iran also seized a US military underwater drone in the Hormuz Strait.
Saudi aggression against Yemen
At least three civilians have been killed in the latest Saudi airstrike on two Yemeni areas in the southwestern province of Ta’iz. The Yemeni health ministry said two of the victims were children. Saudi fighter jets also bombed a government building in the Khadir district of Ta’iz. The province has been a focus of Saudi airstrikes over the past days. Meanwhile, Yemen’s armed forces launched a large-scale missile and drone strike that heavily damaged Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait. They warned of broader operations if the Saudi aggression continued. Ansarullah also said it has captured additional strategic islands in southern Red Sea.
China-US tensions
China has urged the United States to stop preparing for war in outer space, after Washington confirmed the deployment of weapons into orbit for the first time. China’s Foreign Ministry further warned that the deployment risks turning outer space into a battlefield and fueling an arms race. On Monday, the US Air Force Secretary said that the Space Force has operational weapons in orbit capable of responding to threats from adversaries. China’s reaction to the announcement comes amid growing competition between the two economic powers. The militarization of space dates back to the Cold War. The 19-67 Outer Space Treaty bans weapons of mass destruction in orbit, but does not prohibit other forms of military activity in space.
