Two civilians killed, another injured as Saudi strike destroys bridge in southern Yemen

At least two civilians have been killed when a Saudi airstrike destroyed a bridge in Yemen’s southwestern province of Ta’izz, as clashes between Yemeni army forces and Saudi-backed mercenaries are intensifying along the country’s western coast.

Yemen’s al-Masirah television channel, citing local sources, reported that two people lost their lives and another sustained injuries on Monday evening when a Saudi airstrike targeted al-Barah Bridge in the Maqbanah district.

The strike reduced sections of the transport bridge to rubble, and disconnected the region from nearby areas.

Saudi fighter jets also launched three airstrikes on the strategic Red Sea city of Mokha. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties or the extent of the damage.

Elsewhere in the northwestern province of Sa’ada, Saudi combat drones carried out several strikes on Ayash area in the Monabbih district as Saudi artillery units shelled the region repeatedly.

Yemeni Armed Forces have targeted aircraft hangars, radar systems and arms depots at King Khalid Air Base in Saudi Arabia’s southern region of Asir.

Saudi Arabia launches 54 airstrikes on Yemen in past 24 hours

Additionally, Spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said in a statement that Saudi warplanes had carried out 54 airstrikes against multiple locations across Yemen over the past 24 hours.

He added that the aerial raids targeted districts in the northern provinces of Hajjah and al-Jawf, the southwestern province of Lahej and Ta’izz, as well as the central province of Ma’rib.

Saree stated that the aircraft involved in the strikes took off from Saudi military bases in the kingdom’s southwestern cities of Khamis Mushait and Taif.
 
He emphasized that the ongoing Saudi acts of aggression against Yemen will not go unanswered and will be met with a crushing response.

Yemeni army launches attack in Jawf, dozens of Saudi-backed militants slain

Earlier in the day, dozens of Saudi-backed militants were killed and others wounded as Yemeni military repelled an attack by the mercenary forces and launched a counteroffensive in the country’s northern province of al-Jawf.

An unnamed Yemeni military source told the local al-Masirah television channel that Yemeni armed forces carried out a qualitative operation north of al-Kana'is area in the Khabb wa ash Sha'af district, inflicting heavy losses on Saudi-backed mercenary forces.

He added that a number of military vehicles, alongside weapons and ammunition, were destroyed as Yemeni army forces targeted Saudi mercenaries’ positions.

The development came a day after at least four high-ranking field commanders of Saudi-sponsored militants were killed and five others wounded by Yemeni military units during clashes in the Kahbub mountain range, which overlooks the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the surrounding coastline and areas.

Al-Masirah TV, citing local sources, reported that those slain included a battalion commander and two platoon commanders. 

Those wounded included the chief commanders of the so-called Fourth Brigade, First Division and Second Battalion of Saudi-backed mercenaries.

Yemen: Saudi Arabia ‘mistaken’ to assume it can escape punishment

Meanwhile, the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates says Saudi authorities are ‘mistaken’ to believe they can escape punishment for their ongoing acts of aggression against their southern neighbor.

“Saudi Arabia will not remain safe as long as it continues its hostilities. The kingdom waged a military campaign and enforced a blockade on Yemen, which have been going on for more than 12 years,” the ministry said in a statement.

It added that the Riyadh regime started the latest bout of aggression against Yemen with a major strike on Sana’a International Airport on July 13 to stop an Iranian aircraft from landing, and ignored calls to end the blockade.

The ministry further noted that Saudi military buildups and militarization of Mokha demonstrate the wicked nature of the Riyadh regime’s intentions.
 
“Maritime navigation in waters off the western Yemen coastline is now much safer after Yemeni Armed Forces asserted control over the region, and expelled Saudi-backed mercenary forces,” the Yemeni foreign ministry said.
