Iran responds to US aggression
Iran’s armed forces have launched new strikes on United States’ bases in the region following US attacks on the southern Iranian island of Larak. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said it has targeted American military assets at Jordan’s King Hussein and al-Azraq bases with ballistic missiles and drones. The IRGC said it targeted the technical and maintenance infrastructure of American forces and their fighter jets’ hangars at the two air bases causing heavy damage. It warned that renewed aggression will not make up for the enemy's failure in weakening Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, and every aggression will be met with a more devastating response. Separately, Iran’s army says it has struck US’ al-Minhad air base in the UAE, used to station US forces and helicopters with attack drones. It said al-Minhad is one of the key facilities used for logistical support and air transportation of foreign forces. The US attack on Larak Island was conducted late on Sunday and killed and wounded a number of IRGC members and local people.
Slamming US aggression
Iran’s foreign ministry has strongly condemned the US attack on one of its southern islands that left a number of military personnel and civilians dead and injured. In a statement, the ministry said the attack on Larak Island was a violation of Iran’s sovereignty. The ministry said armed forces responded by pummeling US bases from where the attacks originated. The ministry warned the armed forces will not hesitate to enforce Iran’s legitimate right to self-defense and will give a decisive response to any act of aggression. The ministry said provocative and meddling moves by the US and Israel are the root cause of insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. The ministry added that the US and those complicit in its acts of aggression, its naval blockade and economic war against Iran bear full responsibility for the consequences of their acts.
Oil prices rise
Global oil prices have increased more than two percent following renewed tensions in West Asia and Hormuz Strait. Brent rose above 90 $ per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate stood at more than 85 $. Oil prices have seen an upward trajectory over the past months amid conflicting signals over the prospects of a deal between Iran and the US on reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Some 20 % of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas used to travel through the vital waterway before the US-Israeli imposed war on Iran began.
