US foreign policy regarding Iran, region driven by 'extreme reliance on lies': FM spokesman
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has criticized the United States’ approach toward Iran and the wider region, describing Washington’s foreign policy as excessively reliant on “lies.”
In a post on Saturday on his X account, Baghaei cited a passage from Fyodor Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov to characterize the consequences of such an approach.
“This passage from Dostoevsky’s "The Brothers Karamazov" aptly describes the situation in which the US system of governance and foreign policy regarding Iran and the region finds itself due to its extreme reliance on 'lies',” he wrote.
Quoting Dostoevsky, Baghaei added, “The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others.”

In a Wednesday Truth Social post, US President Donald Trump claimed that the US "has total control over the Strait of Hormuz. I THINK WE WILL KEEP IT!"
"Our Naval Blockade is being called, by everyone, 'A WALL OF STEEL', and there is nothing Iran can do about it," he further claimed.
However, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, the spokesperson for Iran's Khatam-al Anbiya central command said Thursday "The false claims of the United States that ships are passing through the Strait of Hormuz normally ... are nothing more than lies and fabrications."
"The Strait of Hormuz is, as in the past, under the complete management and control of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and no commercial ship or tanker without the permission and supervision of the powerful Iranian armed forces has had and will have the possibility of safe passage through this strait," he said in a video carried by state television.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, has remained largely closed for most of the past five months, since the United States and Israel launched their war of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Iran is now in talks with Oman to establish a joint mechanism for managing shipping through the strategic waterway. Tehran has also made clear that it will not reopen the strait until the United States meets its demands.
