'Iran not to give up its rights'
The newly-appointed Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council has vowed the country will not back down on its rights and interests in the face of any threat. In a message following his appointment, Mohsen Rezaei thanked the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the president, saying decisions on national security must be made with greater strength, prudence, courage and a clear understanding of the situation. Rezaei said Iran is at a sensitive point, describing his new position as a big responsibility. He said the goal is to make Iran safer, more united and stronger, with a greater capacity for progress. Regarding foreign policy, Rezaei said Iran will focus on strengthening deterrence, resisting coercion, responding swiftly and decisively to aggression, protecting national interests, using diplomatic capacities and maintaining readiness in the face of any threat.
Hormuz talks at 'critical' stage
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry says talks between Iran and Oman over the Strait of Hormuz have reached a critical stage. Spokesman Majed Al-Ansari says Doha has received positive feedback from both sides and supports efforts to de-escalate tensions and facilitate the reopening of the waterway. Iranian officials have said negotiations with Oman have entered their final phase. The talks are aimed at establishing a temporary route through the Strait to ensure safe navigation. Tehran stresses that reaching an understanding with Muscat does not necessarily mean Hormuz will be reopened. Iran says any decision to reopen the waterway depends on a change in the United States behavior toward the Islamic Republic.
Pakistan interior minister in Iran
Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Syed Mohsin Naqvi, has arrived in Tehran for talks with Iranian officials. Naqvi was received by his Iranian counterpart, Eskandar Momeni. During his visit, the Pakistani interior minister is scheduled to discuss bilateral relations, as well as issues of mutual interest. Naqvi is also carrying invitations from Pakistan’s leadership for Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to pay an official visit to Islamabad. Pakistan has acted as a mediator in indirect talks between Iran and the United States. Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts have contributed to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two sides, which was later violated by the US administration.
