Hezbollah warns Israeli occupation threatens all of Lebanon, urges unity
Hezbollah has warned that the Israeli occupation poses a threat beyond southern Lebanon and targets the country as a whole, calling on the Lebanese people to unite in defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial rights.
In a statement on Sunday, the Lebanese resistance group said the people of Lebanon must recognize the dangers posed by the government’s continued policy of concessions and negotiations with the Israeli regime.
It also urged Lebanese authorities to take immediate steps to confront Israel’s ambitions and defend the country’s territory and resources.
Hezbollah’s statement came after the Israeli foreign ministry published a map that the resistance group said, “incorporated occupied parts of southern Lebanon into the regime’s illegitimate entity.”
The map, Hezbollah added, confirmed the Tel Aviv regime’s ambitions toward Lebanon, “its land, its resources, and its capabilities.”
The group further warned Beirut that ongoing direct negotiations with Tel Aviv are “nothing but a blatant attempt to gain time and impose new facts on the ground.”
“The Lebanese authority bears full responsibility due to its insistence on pursuing the path of concessions and presenting free gifts to the enemy,” it said, calling on Beirut to “conduct a comprehensive review to correct its course” and halt its “direct and humiliating negotiations with the enemy.”
Lebanon and Israel held a seventh round of direct talks in Rome on Wednesday. The talks are aimed at ending the regime’s attacks on southern Lebanon and securing a phased Israeli withdrawal from the country.
Despite the negotiations, Israeli forces launched fresh artillery strikes in southern Lebanon on Sunday, targeting areas in the Nabatieh governorate.
Prominent Hezbollah lawmaker Hussein Hajj Hassan warned on Saturday that negotiations with Israel have brought Lebanon nothing other than successive concessions.
He said the talks continue while “the Zionists continue to target Lebanese civilians, army servicemen, demolish homes, and wreak havoc in southern Lebanon.”
Calling on the government to retreat from the wrong path of working out agreements with the Israeli regime, Hajj Hassan said protecting the homeland and national sovereignty, as well as defending Lebanese nationals, are at the core of the government’s responsibilities.
