Yemen: Saudi Arabia’s halt to blockade, aggression only way to end fighting
President of Yemen's Supreme Political Council Mahdi al-Mashat has described an unconditional halt to Saudi Arabia’s blockade and aggression against his country as the only solution to end the ongoing hostilities and establish peace.
“Should the aggression persist and the siege is not lifted, any dialogue and agreement will be nothing but an illusion and a mirage,” Mashat stated on Saturday.
He underlined the legitimacy of retaliatory operations being carried out by Yemeni armed forces, stating that the strikes are being conducted within the framework of the fundamental right of self-defense and in line with the just demands of the Yemeni nation.
The head of the Supreme Political Council of Yemen noted that Yemeni armed forces are seeking to end the Saudi siege and aggression against their homeland, which has been ongoing for nearly 12 years.
Hailing the spirited resistance of the Yemeni nation against Saudi Arabia's aggression, Mashat stated that his compatriots have demonstrated unwavering strength and resilience in the face of adversity, and that victory will be theirs.
He also dismissed condemnations of Yemen’s naval blockade that could impact oil flow to importers of Saudi oil, stressing such protests are worthless and cannot undermine the willpower of the Yemeni people.
Mashat finally expressed his appreciation for the Yemeni armed forces, describing them as powerful and resolute in the face of the brutality and barbarism of their enemies.
Yemen declared on Monday that it would impose “a maritime blockade” on Saudi Arabia, effective immediately.
Military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree announced in a televised statement that a ban on maritime navigation associated with Saudi Arabia “has taken effect from the time the statement was made.”
Saree cautioned that any escalation from Saudi Arabia would provoke a “thorough and harsh response.”
