Condemning US aggression
Iran's Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the United States’ latest acts of aggression against the country, saying Washington has blatantly violated almost all clauses of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding. The ministry said in a statement that the United States’ barbaric attacks over the past 24 hours are not only a gross violation of the UN Charter, but also a serious threat to international peace and security. It added that the US regime has committed the most heinous war crimes by attacking Iran's transportation infrastructure, fishing boats, cargo ships, and other civilian infrastructure. The ministry said by interfering in Iran's arrangements in the Hormuz Strait, the US has made the waterway insecure and disrupted international commercial shipping. It stressed that the US terrorist army has also turned the Persian Gulf littoral countries into the arena of its illegal and criminal war against Iran. The ministry warned that the origins of attacks against Iran will be considered legitimate targets of defensive strikes by Iranian armed forces. It also criticized the UN and its Security Council for failing to hold the aggressors accountable for their crimes against the Iranian nation.
US aggression against Iran
Iran says its strikes on US military bases and assets in the southern Persian Gulf constitute a legitimate and lawful exercise of the country’s inherent right to self-defense under international law. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman made the comment in reaction to remarks by the UN chief’s spokesperson, who expressed serious concern about what he called “renewed military confrontation” between Iran and the United States. Esmaeil Baghaei said what is happening in the Persian Gulf is not a “military confrontation,” but the continuation of a blatant and unprovoked act of aggression initiated in late February by the US and Israel. He said instead of alleging that Iran is attacking Persian Gulf countries, the UN chief should urge those countries to immediately cease allowing the US to use their territories as launch pads for aggression against Iran. Baghaei noted that it is far from responsible to blame Iran for defending its sovereignty, while failing to hold the aggressors accountable for their egregious violation of international law.
IRGC retaliatory operations
The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps has carried out more retaliatory strikes on American military bases in the region. The IRGC’s operations followed fresh attacks on southern Iranian regions, including Qeshm Island and the port city of Bandar Abbas, by terrorist American forces. The IRGC said its aerospace force has targeted launch pads for surface-to-surface HIMARS missiles in Kuwait using attack drones. It added that the drones destroyed HIMARS missiles and launch pads that were ready to carry out strikes on Iran. Some reports indicate that several American forces have been killed in the operation. Kuwait's defense ministry has confirmed attacks on three of its border posts and an offshore oil platform. The new developments came after earlier in the day, the IRGC destroyed a US military command-and-control center, as well as hangars housing MQ-9 drones at Jordan's Prince Hassan Air Base with ballistic missiles. The IRGC also targeted Qatar’s al-Udeid air base, as well as logistics support and refueling platforms used by US aircraft carriers at the Port of Duqum in Oman.
