Iranian armed forces response

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps says it has carried out attacks on US bases in the region, in retaliation for Washington's fresh strikes on southern Iran. The IRGC said a US military command-and-control center as well as hangars housing MQ-9 drones at Jordan's Prince Hassan Air Base were struck and destroyed with ballistic missiles. The IRGC also said it targeted the airbase at Qatar’s Al Udeid with ballistic missiles. A center for maintenance and repair of fighter aircraft as well as a command-and-control center at the base in Qatar were destroyed. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps also said it carried out an attack on centers for logistics support and refueling platforms used by US aircraft carriers at the Port of Duqum in Oman. The retaliatory strikes come after the US launched acts of aggression on a number of coastal bases and telecommunication towers on Iran’s southern coast. According to the IRGC, the aggression took place after a US attempt to transit vessels through an illegal route south of the Strait of Hormuz was neutralized by Iran's naval forces.

U.S. Hormuz Strait ‘interference’

The Iranian Army has slammed the US for trying to normalize an unconventional transit route south of the Strait of Hormuz, adding that Washington’s improper meddling is creating insecurity in the region. Army spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia said the US move is in violation of the memorandum of understanding it agreed with Iran. The general noted that the MoU clearly hands the responsibility for the strait to Iran. Akraminia warned that Iran will defend its rights under the MoU, adding that Washington needs to respect the agreement’s provisions.

Albania protests

Thousands of Albanians have taken to the streets of the capital Tirana in protest at a tourism project linked to the US President’s family. It was the forty-second consecutive night of such demonstrations. The luxury project in Albania, linked to Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, is facing opposition from environmental advocates and has triggered protests dubbed the Flamingo Revolution. The rallies have now broadened into a wider movement demanding the resignation of the country's longtime Prime Minister Edi Rama over accusations of corruption.
