An Iranian police officer has been martyred in a terrorist attack in southeastern Iran after gunmen targeted him while he was traveling to his workplace.

The Information Center of the Sistan and Baluchestan Police announced on Sunday that Mohammad Palangi was martyred after armed individuals opened fire on him in Sib and Suran County.

According to the statement, Palangi, a Sunni police officer from the Baluch ethnic community, was on his way to work when he was targeted in the shooting attack.

Police authorities said efforts to identify and arrest those responsible are continuing and that additional information will be released as investigations progress.

The incident comes amid a series of terrorist attacks targeting security personnel in different parts of Iran in recent weeks.

Two members of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) were martyred on Monday and two others wounded in a terrorist attack in the western city of Paveh in Kermanshah Province after armed assailants opened fire near their residences.

On Saturday, two Iranian law enforcement personnel were martyred and five others wounded in a terrorist attack on the Sabadlou checkpoint along the Baneh–Saqqez Road in Kordestan Province.

The attack also injured two civilians, including a three-year-old girl who was struck by ricocheting bullets.

Security forces subsequently launched an operation to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Last week, authorities also reported a terrorist attack in Saravan in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, where gunmen opened fire on civilians, killing two people and prompting a security investigation.

US and Israeli authorities have repeatedly admitted that Washington and Tel Aviv have provided arms and other equipment to militant groups in Iran in order to create unrest, and overthrow the government.

Back on April 6, President Donald Trump stated that during the February US-Israeli aggression against Iran, weapons had been sent through Kurdish intermediaries to militant groups operating along the Iran-Iraq border.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett also disclosed on June 23 that before the January riots the regime had smuggled tens of thousands of Starlink satellite internet receivers into Iran.

Bennett said the devices were intended to enable militant groups to communicate, coordinate activities, and challenge the Iranian government.

According to Iranian authorities, the objective of such groups is to fuel instability, undermine national security, and create conditions for unrest in border regions.
