Iran’s Qalibaf meets Sultan of Oman after Switzerland talks

Iran's Parliament speaker and top negotiator in the talks with the United States, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, has met Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in Muscat, as they discussed the bilateral ties and the latest developments regarding the negotiations on the Iran-US MoU.

Heading an Iranian delegation, Qalibaf who traveled to Muscat as part of diplomatic engagements discussed ways to enhance Tehran-Muscat cooperation, and arrangements for managing the Strait of Hormuz in the future, with Sultan Haitham in al-Baraka Palace on Tuesday.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments regarding Iran-US talks, Oman’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on X.

According to the statement, the Sultan expressed his support for the talks and wished for them to succeed in reaching “a peaceful and final settlement of all outstanding issues,” including the resumption and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, the nuclear file, and other related issues and challenges.

The statement said that Qalibaf conveyed the greetings of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to the Sultan, wishing Oman and its nation “continued progress and prosperity.”

The Iranian delegation appreciated, on behalf of the country’s leadership, government and people, the wise approach of Oman, under the leadership of Sultan Haitham, and the constructive role played by Muscat in supporting dialogue, reducing tensions, and enhancing opportunities for peace and stability in the region.

For his part, the Sultan entrusted Qalibaf with conveying his greetings to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, and to President Pezeshkian, and to extend his best wishes for continued security, stability, and prosperity for Iran.

Qalibaf, who arrived in Muscat on Monday evening following negotiations between Iran and the US in Switzerland and a brief stop in Tehran, is leading the Iranian delegation for joint consultations with Omani officials on the Hormuz Strait’s governance.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is accompanying the parliament speaker on the official visit.

Up on the delegation’s arrival in Muscat, Iran and Oman formed a joint committee to discuss the Strait of Hormuz.
