President Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran will never yield to excessive demands or tolerate the suppression of its people's rights amid continued talks between Tehran and Washington based on a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Speaking at a ceremony marking the National Day of Guilds in Tehran on Monday, Pezeshkian said the ongoing negotiations with the US are being pursued with "dignity and authority" within the framework set by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei.
"Wherever they seek to disregard the rights of the Iranian nation, we will not compromise under any circumstances and will not bow to excessive demands," he added.
Pezeshkian noted that his administration has made efforts to consolidate the achievements of Iran's armed forces and the nation in the diplomatic arena.
Last week, the Iranian president and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, remotely signed the 14-point Islamabad MoU, which brings about a permanent end to the illegal US-Israeli war of aggression against the Islamic Republic.
The deal includes a commitment from both countries to hold further talks to finalize an agreement in the next 60 days.
The MoU calls for a permanent end to hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon, phased lifting of US sanctions, removal of the naval blockade on Iran, and restoration of commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days.
On Sunday, the first round of four-party talks involving Iran, the United States, and mediators Pakistan and Qatar was held in Switzerland, where the Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, called for the full implementation of the memorandum.
During almost 18 hours of intensive and continuous talks, the Iranian delegation demanded the implementation of Washington's commitments under the Islamabad-mediated understanding. At the end of the talks, the sides agreed to continue expert-level discussions under a "commitment for commitment" framework.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Pezeshkian highlighted the significance of the enemy's retreat on the Lebanon issue, saying the steadfastness of the Iranian negotiating team has forced the opposing side to step back and put an end to the killing of the Lebanese people.
“The fact that today, as a result of the steadfastness and resilience of the negotiating team, the opposing side has been compelled to retreat on the issue of Lebanon and has stopped the killing and slaughter of this country’s oppressed people is no small achievement,” the Iranian president said.
He noted that all segments of the Iranian society have played a role in this major diplomatic success, underscoring national unity and coherence behind the recent gains.
