Iran has deep bonds with Lebanon, will stand by it: Judiciary chief

Iranian Judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei

Iranian Judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei has said the country will stand by Lebanon and its resistance against foreign aggression because of deep bonds that exist between the two nations.

In a Sunday post published on social media, Ejei described the resistance in Lebanon as the "very soul of Iran", as he said there are some "strong ideological, faith-based, and spiritual bonds between Iran and the people of Lebanon."

"The bond between Iran and the people of Lebanon is one of blood, epic, faith, and ideals, a bond that remains steadfast, clear, and sharp even in the most severe and difficult moments," he said in the Farsi-language post.

The comments came amid criticism by senior officials in the pro-Western government of Lebanon about Iran's support for the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah.

The criticism is part of the Lebanese government's efforts to meet US and Israeli demands to pressure Hezbollah into disarming.

The post also came hours after the Israeli regime conducted missile strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs, killing at least two people and injuring 11 others, in a grave violation of a ceasefire with Lebanon.

Hezbollah has rejected calls for it to lay down its arms, describing the weapons as a bulwark against Israeli aggression and violation of Lebanese sovereignty.

The resistance group has been fighting an extensive Israeli aggression that began in late February, concurrent with the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.

Iran has constantly called for an end to Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which have killed thousands and displaced nearly two million. It insists that Lebanon must be part of any potential agreement with the United States.

Iranian authorities have also indicated that they would retaliate against the Israeli regime if it expanded its attacks to the Lebanese capital Beirut and areas where Hezbollah is based.

Ejei said in his social media post that Hezbollah's fight against the Israeli regime is a reflection of the broader "spirit of nations who refuse to bow down to oppression, tyranny, and aggression."

He said that Israel is now setting its greedy sight on Beirut after its attacks on southern Lebanon.
