The leader of the Hamas resistance movement in the Gaza Strip says the occupying Israeli regime adheres to no obligations and reneges on all agreements it has already signed.

Khalil al-Hayya stated late on Wednesday that negotiations have reached a standstill due to Israeli officials’ obstinacy and their refusal to honor the Sharm el-Sheikh ceasefire agreement.

He emphasized that the Tel Aviv regime does not comply with any obligations and that the ceasefire guarantor states, Qatar, Egypt, the United States, and Turkey, along with other mediators, must assume their duties and responsibilities.

Al-Hayya highlighted that Hamas has long put forward proposals and honored its obligations, while Israeli authorities have failed to meet theirs.

He stressed that Israel’s refusal to fulfill its commitments poses an obstacle to moving forward with the second phase of the ceasefire.

“How can one proceed to the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire,” al-Hayya argued, “when the technocratic committee that will manage the region’s affairs has not even received permission to enter the area?”

The Hamas leader then called on US President Donald Trump and the international community to compel Israel to fully implement the Gaza ceasefire.

“We want the cessation of hostilities to hold, the transition to the reconstruction phase, and the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces,” al-Hayya pointed out.

Since the Gaza ceasefire was announced on October 11 last year, the number of Palestinians killed by Israel has reached 837, and the number of injured has risen to 2,381.

During this period, 769 bodies have been recovered from the rubble.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip has put the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces since the outbreak of the genocidal war on the besieged coastal strip on October 7, 2023, at 72,619.
