Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf condemns Israel’s move to block Palm Sunday in Beit-ul-Moqaddas, saying the Zionist regime is attempting to erase every trace of Islam and Christianity.
In a post on his X account on Monday, Qalibaf said the regime’s move comes as the feast was held in three Iranian cities in spite of heavy bombing of civilians amid the continued US-Israeli war of aggression against the Islamic Republic.
“Palm Sunday masses were held yesterday in Tehran, Tabriz and Urmia despite Israel’s brutal bombing of civilians.”
He pointed out, however, that the Christian population in the occupied territories has dropped from 12.5% before 1945 to only 1% at present.
“Zionism is trying to erase every trace of Islam and Christianity,” he said.
Qalibaf also posted photos of ceremonies held at Saint Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Catholic Church in Tehran to mark Palm Sunday.
According to reports, Israeli police on Sunday blocked Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa marking Palm Sunday at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, sparking international outcry and condemnation by Christian countries.
The Vatican also summoned Israel’s ambassador in protest at the move.
