Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for an Islamic security structure to replace the foreign presence in West Asia and preserve the region’s security and stability.
He made the remarks in a video message on Friday on the occassion of the New Year as well as Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the blessed month of Ramadan.
"We do not intend to have disagreements with Muslim countries; we are not seeking conflict or war with Islamic countries. They are our brothers,” Pezeshkian said, adding that “a treacherous” enemy, through its methods and actions, was behind the dispute that has taken place among Muslims.
"We have never pursued nuclear weapons. Whenever we met Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Sayyed Ali Khamenei] alongside members of the Defense Council and commanders, he resolutely declared that nuclear weapons are religiously forbidden,” the president said.
“No official in the Islamic Republic can move toward developing nuclear weapons of mass destruction or steer the process in that direction," he added.
"However, the US and its president misled the world into believing that we intended to move towards nuclear weapons to instigate a mass killing. Unfortunately, the global media accepts these lies and reports based on them," he stated.
Referring to the damage that occurred in Iran’s relations with some Persian Gulf Arab countries over the US-Israeli aggression and the ensuing retaliatory Iranian attacks, Pezeshkian stressed that “you are our brothers.”
“Our prayer is that God helps to eliminate these differences. We are ready to resolve all problems with you, dear ones,” he said.
He added that the solution to establish peace and tranquility in West Asia is for the regional Muslim countries to form a security structure to guarantee the region’s peace, security, and stability.
"We do not need the presence of foreigners in the region; through the cooperation among Islamic countries, we can establish the 'Islamic Council of the Middle East' and regulate our security, economic, cultural, and political relations within this framework."
Pezeshkian reiterated that “we are not seeking chaos in the region,” warning against “falling into the traps designed for us by our enemies.”
"We have no intention whatsoever of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. We absolutely do not want the security and peace of the region to be disrupted. You should know, and you do know, that it is Israel that is causing chaos, unrest, genocide, terrorism, and sabotage in the region."
The US and Israel started the latest round of aerial aggression on Iran on February 28, some eight months after they carried out unprovoked attacks on the country.
Iran began to swiftly retaliate against the strikes by launching barrages of missiles and drone attacks on the Israeli-occupied territories as well as on US bases in regional countries.
