Iran FM's warning
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said any threat against Iran is a threat to the whole West Asia region. He stressed that Iran’s defensive capabilities and its missile program are non-negotiable. Araghchi said no country is prepared to compromise on its own security and defense. He said there are currently no meetings or planned contacts with US officials, stressing that conditions for talks have not yet been met. Araghchi said Iran has no problem with negotiations, but talks cannot take place while threats are being made against the country.
South Africa expels Israeli envoy
South Africa has expelled Israel’s top diplomat in a forceful diplomatic rebuke, accusing him of insulting the country’s president and abusing diplomatic privilege in a move that underscores rising international pushback against the Israeli regime’s conduct. South Africa has declared Israel’s senior diplomat, Ariel Seidman, persona non grata and ordered him to leave the country within 72 hours. The Department of International Relations and Cooperation says Seidman used official social media platforms to launch insulting attacks against President Cyril Ramaphosa and breached diplomatic norms by acting outside his mandate, including inviting Israeli officials to South Africa without permission. The government said the move was necessary to defend national dignity and sovereignty. Israel later announced retaliatory steps against South Africa’s representative. South Africa took Israel to the International Court of Justice in December 2023, over the regime’s genocidal war in Gaza, a move that soured their bilateral ties.
Anti-ICE protests in the US
People have taken to the streets across the United States to protest President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, with organizers calling for a boycott of school, work, and shopping as part of the nationwide protests. In Minneapolis, protesters gathered outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building, the site of daily demonstrations against federal immigration enforcement operations. Demonstrators demanded that the agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement leave their city while condemning the deportation of immigrants from their city. Organizers have also encouraged people statewide to stay home from work and school and to refrain from shopping for the day as part of an economic strike against the Trump administration’s immigration policies. Similar rallies and actions have been held across the US, with protesters condemning Washington’s approach to enforcement of immigration policies.
