'America for Americans': Who decides who belongs?

Under Donald Trump, the United States has made its intentions explicit: Reclaiming dominance over the American continent under the banner of "America for Americans." The recently announced US national security law is widely seen as a modern reinterpretation of the Monroe Doctrine, reinforcing Washington’s claim to regional control.

However, this vision does not include all nations of the continent, only the interests of the United States itself. Trump’s rhetoric and policies signal reinforcement of interventionism, particularly towards Latin America.

The pressure placed on Venezuela stands as a clear warning to neighboring countries. In this context, serious questions arise about Mexico’s room for maneuver. How much independence can Mexico truly exercise while sharing a border with an increasingly aggressive superpower?
