UAE forces to leave Yemen
The United Arab Emirates has announced it will withdraw its counterterrorism units in Yemen, following rising tensions with Saudi Arabia. The Emirati defense ministry says given the recent developments and their potential implications for the safety and effectiveness of counterterrorism missions, it has decided to evacuate the remaining teams from Yemen. It added that the move was coordinated with concerned partners to ensure the safety of the personnel. Earlier Yemen’s Presidential Council revoked a joint defense agreement with the United Arab Emirates, ordering its forces to withdraw from Yemeni territory within 24 hours.
Iran mass rallies
Iranians have taken to the streets across the nation to commemorate the anniversary of mass rallies that put an end to the 2009 post-election unrest. In Tehran, people gathered at Imam Hussein Square waving flags of the Islamic republic. The protesters also carried Hezbollah's flag and chanted slogans against the US and Israel. Back in 2009, street protests were held under the pretext of opposing the results of the presidential election. The foreign-orchestrated protests soon turned to riots following which hundreds of thousands of Iranians took part in nationwide rallies against the post-election unrest aimed at toppling the Islamic Establishment.
