US assassination of Gen. Soleimani aimed at collapsing resistance security order: Iranian envoy

Iran’s ambassador to Iraq says the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani was designed to dismantle the security architecture of the resistance axis, but instead resulted in stronger regional deterrence and the failure of Zionist calculations.

"A review of regional developments shows that the blood of the slain commander not only reinforced resistance movements but also acted as a catalyst for reshaping power dynamics in West Asia," Mohammad Kazem Ale-Sadeq told IRNA ahead of the sixth anniversary of the assassination of General Soleimani.

He said this transformation has led to “dynamic deterrence” and has "invalidated Zionist calculations."

He noted that recent hostile measures by Israel across the region reflect attempts to exploit the physical absence of a powerful commander.

However, he said developments on the ground demonstrate that the “structure of resistance” has reached an “institutionalized level of maturity.”

The Israeli regime, he maintained, has faced unprecedented crises over the past two years, highlighting a major miscalculation in assessing Soleimani’s legacy—one that shifted regional security from reliance on individuals to dependence on an integrated, indigenous network.

On the political and legal front, the ambassador underlined that the Iraqi parliament’s decision to approve the expulsion of foreign forces was the first strategic blow against those responsible for the assassination.

He added that ongoing cooperation between the Iranian and Iraqi judicial authorities, along with sustained efforts by the Iraqi government, shows that the case will remain a regional diplomatic priority until a final outcome is reached and those responsible are punished.

He further noted that no political pressure can legitimize “state terrorism.”

Rejecting Western assessments, the ambassador said General Soleimani’s assassination did not lead to the collapse of resistance groups, but instead "accelerated their operational self-sufficiency."

He said the late commander transformed resistance movements from a “leader-dependent network” into a “unified front,” and that his absence, while a major loss, "gave rise to a new generation of commanders inspired by his battlefield management."

These leaders have enhanced resistance capabilities, particularly in missile and drone deterrence, added the envoy.

He said resistance groups in Yemen, Lebanon, Palestine, and Iraq now operate not as scattered forces but as a unified and self-reliant front capable of defending their national and Islamic interests independently of external pressure.

The ambassador noted that the assassination was a short-term tactical gain for the United States but a "long-term strategic failure."

“This action completely tarnished the seemingly peaceful image of the US in the region and its military presence came at a high political and security cost,” he said.

He added that the assassination not only failed to weaken Iran’s regional influence but also sparked widespread public outrage, increasing the cost of US involvement in West Asia.

“This action exposed the strategic failure of US and the true face of Washington's interventionist policies to the world's public opinion, and turned Martyr Soleimani into an international symbol for the fight against terrorism and arrogance; a symbol that is reproduced today in anti-Zionist and anti-imperialist rallies around the world,” he further said.

General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), and their companions were assassinated in a US drone strike authorized by US President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.
