Israel violates Gaza truce

The Israeli military has launched fresh attacks in the Gaza Strip as part of the daily violations of the ceasefire it agreed with Hamas in October. Two Palestinians were killed in the strikes on the Al-Shujaiya neighborhood of Gaza City. Khan Yunis in the south also witnessed heavy artillery attacks. Israeli strikes also targeted eastern parts of Deir al-Balah as well as the al-Maghazi and Al-Bureij refugee camps. Gaza media office has reported that Israeli assaults have killed over 400 Palestinians and left more than 1,000 others injured since the truce took effect. In a broader picture, the genocidal war on Gaza has taken the lives of around 70,940 people since October 2023.

Sudan war

Turning now to the war in Sudan; the country’s prime minister has proposed a peace initiative to the UN Security Council, urging the world body to stand on the right side of the history. Idris added that the peace Sudan is seeking should be safeguarded by the International community. The premier said he is in favor of inter-Sudanese dialog during a transitional period, followed by free and fair elections. The plan put forward by Idris calls for a ceasefire monitored by the UN, African Union and Arab League, as well as the withdrawal of paramilitary forces from all areas they occupy. The war in Sudan broke out in April 2023 when clashes began between the Sudanese Army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. More than 40,000 people have been killed in the war.

US-Venezuela tensions

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has hit back at Donald Trump’s pressure campaign against Caracas, saying the US President would be better off focusing on domestic issues. Maduro’s comments come amid a large US military buildup in the Caribbean and Washington’s hostile moves against Venezuela’s oil sector. The US Coast Guard is pursuing a sanctioned oil tanker, known as Bella-one, in international waters near Venezuela. If seized, the vessel would be the third one apprehended by US forces in the past several weeks. Meanwhile, Trump has said it would be smart for the Venezuelan President to step down, threatening further escalation if Maduro plays tough. Since the US began strikes on alleged drug trafficking boats in the region, many have warned that the real intention behind Trump’s moves is to topple Maduro.
