OIC chief pledges support for Iran, hails Tehran's role in Islamic solidarity

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi (L) meets with OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha in Riyadh on December 16, 2025.

The head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) says it is committed to supporting and defending Iran, hailing the significant role of the Islamic Republic within the organization to promote Islamic unity.

OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha made the remarks in a meeting with Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi on the sidelines of the UN Alliance of Civilizations Forum in Riyadh on Tuesday.

"The Organization of Islamic Cooperation is committed to supporting and defending the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.

Taha also called for Iran's continued backing for the OIC's missions and efforts.

Gharibabadi, for his part, praised the efforts of the OIC Secretary-General and the Islamic countries in unanimously condemning the Zionist regime’s aggression against Iran and their unwavering defense of the Palestinian cause, especially in the context of the genocide against the people of Gaza.

The Iranian diplomat addressed the June aggression by the occupation regime against Iran, stating that "the Zionist occupying regime, backed by the United States and based on mistaken calculations, took military action against Iran, but was met with a firm response from Iran."

"The Zionist regime’s aggression against Iran increased solidarity among Islamic countries, elevated the national unity of Iranians, and clarified the reality for everyone that the Zionist regime is the main enemy of the region's people and of regional and international peace and security."

Gharibabadi reiterated Iran's commitment to justice for the victims of the continued violence against Gaza.

He demanded the monitoring and documentation of the Zionist regime’s crimes against the oppressed people of Gaza, urging that the perpetrators, facilitators, and accomplices of these horrific crimes be brought to justice.
