Russian air defense units successfully intercepted 130 fixed-wing Ukrainian drones overnight across several regions in the country and over the Caspian Sea, says Russia’s Defense Ministry.

According to a Monday report by Russia’s Defense Ministry, a large-scale drone assault struck multiple cities, including Rostov-on-Don, Kamensk-Shakhtinsk, as well as Novoshakhtinsk, and nine districts in the Rostov region.

Governor of Rostov Oblast Yury Slyusar said several residential buildings and two vehicles sustained damage during the drone strikes. One car caught fire, leaving its owner with burns to his hands. He has been provided with medical assistance, but refused to be hospitalized.

In the Kamensky district, Slyusar added that the assault also damaged a power supply line, which resulted in the closure of a local water intake facility and a pumping station.

The drone strikes disrupted essential infrastructure, leaving residents in Kamensk’s Zavodskoy neighborhood, the Maslovka hamlet, and Pogorelovo station without access to the water supply.

The Defense Ministry said 38 drones were downed over different regions in Russia and the waters of the Caspian Sea.

It added that Russia’s on-duty air defense systems shot down 16 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones across several regions.

Russian officials have condemned Ukraine for repeatedly launching drone strikes deep into the country's territory, seeking to damage energy facilities and civilian infrastructure far from the frontlines.

The acts of terrorism serve no military purpose other than to spread fear among civilians, they contend.

Russia launched a special military operation against Ukraine in 2022 to demilitarize its neighbor’s Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

The regions are largely populated by ethnic Russians and have declared themselves new republics, refusing to recognize Kiev’s Western-backed government.

Amid the situation, Kiev has been soliciting Western support, which it has received in the form of substantial arms supplies as well as anti-Moscow sanctions and mounting political pressure.
