Iran, China, Saudi Arabia seeking to expand cooperation in multiple fields: Deputy FM

The image shows Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi (C), Saudi Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed Al-Khuraiji (R), and Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Miao Diao (L) during the third meeting of the Iran–China–Saudi Arabia Trilateral Committee at the Iranian Foreign Ministry in Tehran on December 9, 2025.

Iran, China, and Saudi Arabia are committed to broadening cooperation in various areas, says Iran’s deputy foreign minister, following a trilateral meeting held in Tehran as part of the follow-up to the Beijing Agreement.

In a post on his X account on Tuesday, Majid Takht-Ravanchi wrote that the third meeting of the Iran–Saudi Arabia–China Joint Committee was convened in Tehran, with Saudi Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed Al-Khuraiji and Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Miao Diao in attendance.

“The three countries look forward to expanding cooperation among them in various fields,” he said, emphasizing the importance of regional dialogue and cooperation among regional countries aiming at strengthening security, stability, peace, and economic prosperity in the region.

According to Takht-Ravanchi, the three countries “call for an immediate end to Israeli aggression in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, while condemning the act of aggression and violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

The deputy foreign minister noted that all three countries are determined to make full use of the “great potential” of the trilateral joint committee to serve their peoples.

The trilateral meeting was held at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, after which the minutes were signed by the deputy foreign ministers of the three countries.

In part of this document, China emphasized its readiness to continue supporting and encouraging the steps taken by Iran and Saudi Arabia to develop their relations in various fields.

In March 2023, after several days of intensive negotiations hosted by China, Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to resume their diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies and diplomatic missions following seven years of estrangement.

The countries had severed their ties in January 2016 after Riyadh’s execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, a prominent Shia cleric, prompted angry protesters to storm the Saudi Embassy in Tehran.
