Hezbollah commander funeral
People in the Lebanese capital have held a funeral procession for Hezbollah commander, Haytham Ali Tabtabai, and his companions who were assassinated in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut on Sunday. Mourners stress they will remain steadfast no matter what Israel does. Thousands of mourners thronged the streets in the capital's southern suburb of Dahiya to bid farewell to the late military chief killed along with four other members of Hezbollah. Some 20 others were also wounded in the strike. Israel’s latest attack marks another flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement signed between the regime and Lebanon a year ago. Israel has carried out near-daily attacks on southern Lebanon since then. This is the first time in months that Beirut has come under attack.
Israel Gaza attacks
Israeli forces have launched fresh air and artillery strikes on northern and southern parts of Gaza in another violation of the ceasefire. At least four Palestinians were killed and several wounded in separate incidents in Gaza City and Khan Yunis. The Emergency service in Gaza says at least two people were wounded by Israeli army fire in Jabalia in northern Gaza. Also, an explosion from war remnants in northwestern Gaza City has injured several civilians. Preliminary reports confirm that children were among the injured. Meanwhile, rescue teams have recovered bodies of eight Palestinians from under the rubble of a house that was struck earlier in al-Maghazi camp in central Gaza. That increases the number of bodies recovered since the October ceasefire deal to 582. The death toll from the Israeli genocide has exceeded 69,700. Nearly 180,000 people have been injured, most of them women, children and the elderly.
Russia-Ukraine war
US President Donald Trump claims major progress may be made in efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. In a social media post, Trump suggested that “something good just may be happening,” without offering much detail. This, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky insists that ceding Ukrainian territory to Russia remains the central obstacle in negotiations. The statement follows a 28-point US proposal that drew criticism from European Union leaders who argued it leaned too favorably toward Moscow. Meanwhile, fighting continues on the ground. Ukrainian officials say Russian forces have launched a massive drone strike on Kharkiv, killing at least four people and injuring several others. In Kherson, one person was killed and another wounded in the latest Russian attack on the city.
