‘True leader of Global South’: Ayatollah Khamenei’s latest speech sparks online buzz

By Press TV Website Staff

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, speaking at a gathering of Iran’s sports and science medalists on Monday, denounced American destabilizing plots across the region – from the Islamic Republic of Iran to Palestine.

Leader emphasized that any negotiation whose outcome is predetermined through coercion cannot be considered a true dialogue, but imposition, dismissing US President Donald Trump’s anti-Iran rhetoric as part of Washington’s broader strategy of pressure and intimidation.

The remarks sparked a wave of reactions online, with netizens praising Ayatollah Khamenei’s resolve in confronting US policies and his steadfast opposition to American bullying.

“Why has the US established all these military bases in various countries throughout West Asia? What are you doing here? What does this region have to do with you?”

These words from his speech resonated across the globe, immediately quoted, analyzed, and amplified on social media platforms by commentators, analysts, and activists alike.

For many, Ayatollah Khamenei’s remarks were more than a rebuke of Washington’s decades-long military presence in West Asia, but a critique of US foreign policy and its imperial tentacles.

Jason Hinkle, an American commentator and podcaster known for his commentary on geopolitics, was one of those who shared Ayatollah Khamenei’s remarks from the Monday speech, sparking discussion about US destabilization project in West Asia.

Many were fascinated by Ayatollah Khamenei’s deep understanding of “imperialism” and how it works against countries in the Global South.

The Marx Engels Lenin Stalin Mao Institute, a Marxist collective, praised the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, saying he understands imperialism far better than almost any Western "Marxist" does.

Their comment came in response to the Leader’s remark that the United States not only created but continues to manipulate Takfiri terrorist groups such as Daesh (ISIS).

“You, the US, are the terrorists who’ve created Daesh and unleashed them on West Asia. You keep them in reserve to use them one day. A number of the Daesh elements are currently in the control of the US. They’re being held somewhere to be used wherever they wish at any time,” he said.

That theme — of the US acting as a destabilizing force — was echoed by users across the Global South.

Alon Mizrahi, a journalist and commentator, called Ayatollah Khamenei “the true political and ideological leader of the Global South,” sub-quoting a snippet from the Iranian leader’s speech.

“What authority do you, Americans, have to dictate what a country should or shouldn't do if it possesses nuclear industry? What position do you hold in the world? How is it any of America's business whether Iran has nuclear capabilities and nuclear industry or not,” the Leader said.

While Washington claims that its military presence and policies are aimed at maintaining “regional stability,” Ayatollah Khamenei showed them the mirror.

Social media activists like Arya cited a remark from the speech, in response to Trump’s idle boasts about “destroying” Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

“All good, let him live in that fantasy. The Israeli regime didn’t expect our missiles to level their important centers and sensitive research centers to ashes, but it happened, and we built those missiles, and have many more too. If necessary, we will use them again,” he quoted Leader as saying.

Others highlighted Ayatollah Khamenei’s remarks about Trump’s recent visit to the occupied territories, during which he addressed the Knesset as well.

Thomas Keith, a political observer, summarized the speech as “a clear indication that the US and its allies are grappling with the limits of their power.”

“Ayatollah Khamenei made clear that such rhetoric exposes not strength, but the depth of American and Israeli desperation in the face of decisive blows delivered by the resistance,” he wrote.

Russian X user Aleksey Berezutski quoted another of Ayatollah Khamenei’s remarks directed at the US.

“If you are truly capable, instead of interfering in other countries' affairs, go and calm the seven million American protesters,” he quoted the Leader as saying, referring to recent million-man marches across the US against Trump’s dictatorship.

Independent journalist and social media influencer Khaliss said Ayatollah Khamenei’s honesty is what irks Westerners.

“Honest questions like this are why they loathe the Supreme Leader of Iran, Imam Khamenei,” she said, referring to remarks in the speech.

The meeting on Monday was attended by hundreds of sports champions and international Olympiad medalists, who Leaders called “symbols of growth and embodiments of national strength.”

Ayatollah Khamenei commended the athletes and scientific prodigies for uplifting the nation’s spirit through their victories, particularly at a time when Iran is targeted by psychological warfare designed to demoralize its people.
