Leader congratulates Iran's national freestyle wrestling team on winning world title

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has congratulated Iran's national freestyle wrestling team for securing the world championship title at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb.

In a message on Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei lauded the remarkable dedication and commendable conduct demonstrated by the freestyle wrestling champions. 

"I extend my gratitude to the world champion wrestling team for their astonishing efforts and admirable behavior. The combination of strength and spirituality creates noble values. Well done to you!" the Leader stated.

On Monday, Iran’s National Freestyle Wrestling Team claimed the championship title at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, marking its first triumph in 12 years.

The team finished with two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals, with a tally of 145 points, standing higher than the United States.

Scintillating performances included Amirhossein Zareh, who won gold in the 125kg category, and Ahmad Mohammadnejad-Javan, who took silver in the 61kg class.

Bronze medals went to Mohammad Nokhodi (79kg), Kamran Ghasempour (86kg), and Amirhossein Firoozpour (92kg).

On the last day of the freestyle tournament on Tuesday, Rahman Amouzad won gold in 65kg and Amirali Azarpira snatched silver in 97kg.

The championships held at Arena Zagreb from September 13-21 showcased Iran's prowess against formidable rivals.
