Yemeni drone successfully hits Israeli airport in Eilat

The image published on social media on September 7, 2025 appears to show dark plumes of smoke rising above Israel's Ramon International Airport after a drone attack by Yemen's armed forces.

A drone fired by Yemen’s armed forces has hit an airport in the city of Eilat, a first such strike by the Yemenis targeting key economic infrastructure in the south of the Israeli-occupied territories.

The Israeli Airports Authority said on Sunday that the drone, which struck the passenger terminal at the Ramon Airport earlier in the day, had wounded one person while inflicting considerable damage on the property.

The Israeli military said the attack caused a brief closure of the airspace in the area and caused authorities to divert flights passing over the south of the Israeli-occupied territories.

Yemen’s Ansarullah resistance movement claimed responsibility for the strike.

The group, which leads Yemen’s armed forces, has repeatedly targeted airports in the Israeli capital of Tel Aviv since late 2023, when it started attacks on the Israeli regime to force it to stop its genocidal war on the Palestinians in Gaza.

The Yemenis have also launched numerous attacks on ships traveling via the Red Sea and other regional waterways to and from Israeli ports, causing a major disruption to the regime’s trade activity.

However, the Sunday attack on Ramon airport near the resort city of Eilat was a major escalation in Yemeni operations against Israel.

Reports said the drone that hit the airport was one of several fired by the Yemenis that successfully penetrated Israel’s multi-layered defense system in the area.

The attack came days after Israel launched extensive airstrikes on Yemen, killing the country’s prime minister and other officials in his Cabinet.

The Yemenis had vowed to avenge the unprecedented attacks.
