Hezbollah blames Lebanon govt.’s ‘failure’ as Israel escalates ‘killing and destruction’
Hezbollah says Israel is intensifying its attacks on Lebanon, adding that the regime’s strikes that killed four people and wounded dozens earlier in the day came amid international inaction and the Lebanese government's "failure to protect" the nation.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Lebanese resistance movement said Israel is carrying out a campaign of “killing, shelling, destruction, and systematic blowing up of homes and villages,” adding that the regime is seeking to erase the features of affected areas and destroy the conditions necessary for life there under “flimsy pretexts.”
Hezbollah went on to say that the latest Israeli assault on Lebanon had resulted in four deaths and dozens of injuries, noting that the United States is providing political and other support for Israel while criticizing the Lebanese authorities for a failure to fulfill their responsibilities.
The resistance group also rejected the Lebanese government’s approach to negotiations with Israel, arguing that continued Israeli attacks and destruction demonstrated the failure of the existing framework.
“The continuation of the occupation, aggression, and the spilling of Lebanese blood” had undermined claims of progress through negotiations, the group said.
According to Hezbollah, the attacks are intended to pressure Lebanese authorities into accepting agendas that serve Israeli interests, even at the risk of worsening internal tensions in Lebanon.
The group said the continued Israeli presence and attacks undermined claims by Lebanese officials that direct negotiations and an agreement with Israel were producing results.
It also argued that the release of some Lebanese prisoners, while important, should not be used to overlook what it described as ongoing Israeli occupation, attacks and killings.
Hezbollah called on the Lebanese authorities to “reassess their calculations” and abandon obstinacy and internal disputes, urging them to return to shared national principles aimed at safeguarding Lebanon’s sovereignty.
The group also appealed for national unity and called on all Lebanese people to “stand as one behind a unified national position” in order to preserve the country’s strength, resilience and sovereignty in the face of Israeli attacks.
