US-Israeli Gaza genocide

Israel presses ahead with its genocidal war in the Gaza Strip, killing an injuring more civilians across the besieged Palestinian territory. Starving aid seekers continue to be the main targets of the regime’s latest strikes. Four civilians were killed after Israeli forces opened fire on people waiting for aid near Kissufim, east of Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza. Four more Palestinians, including a journalist, lost their lives after Israeli artillery fire pounded the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, and Deir al-Balah. Two Palestinians, including a child, were killed after a tent for displaced persons was hit west of Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza. According to Palestinian officials, nearly 30 aid seekers were killed by Israeli forces on Monday, increasing the number of people killed while awaiting food aid to more than 1,960. Gaza hospitals also reported five new deaths, including two children, due to malnutrition, raising the number of victims of malnutrition to 263, including 112 children. The Israeli genocide has so far killed more than 62,000 civilians, leaving 156, 230 others injured.

Gaza ceasefire efforts

A senior Hamas official has expressed hope that the new Gaza ceasefire proposal offered by mediators would pave the way for halting the Israeli aggression against the war-torn territory. Taher Al-Nunu said the proposal has already been accepted by both Hamas and other Palestinian factions. He added that the proposal represents a compromise between previous stances taken by Palestinian factions, and those of the Israeli side. Al-Nunu emphasized that Hamas prioritized the national interests of Palestinians by approving the new proposal. His remarks came after, earlier on Monday, Hamas said the movement and Palestinian factions had approved the latest proposal offered by the Egyptian and Qatari mediators. The proposal calls for an initial 60-day truce and the release of Israeli captives in two phases. The mediators say the ball is now in Tel Aviv's court, as they have sent it the truce proposal.

Korean peninsula tensions

The leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has called for the "rapid expansion" of the country's nuclear weapons capability, citing the ongoing US-South Korea military exercises. According to the Korean Central News Agency, Kim Jong-un warned that the US and South Korea have intensified military muscle-flexing, which proves their will to ignite a war on the Korean peninsula. He added that the prevailing situation calls for a radical and swift change in Pyongyang’s existing military theory, and rapid expansion of nuclearization. Kim’s remarks came as the United States and South Korea began eleven-day annual joint exercises on Monday, which they claim are aimed at preparing for potential threats from the North. Pyongyang had earlier warned that the large-scale drills would escalate regional tensions, vowing to respond to any perceived provocation targeting its territory.
