Hezbollah's chief has cautioned that Lebanon faces mounting challenges from both regional powers and internal turmoil. In the martyrdom anniversary of Commander Foud Shukr, Sheikh Naim Qassem has stated that without strong national resilience, the country could face deeper instability. Sheikh Naim Qassem warned that Lebanon faces an existential threat—not only from Israel, but also from the US, Daesh, and the chaos of quote “New Middle East.” He condemned efforts to disarm the resistance as surrendering to Israeli strategy and stressed the need for national unity, defense, and reconstruction. Gaza humanitarian catastrophe
The devastating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip continues to deteriorate, with more cases of malnutrition leading to death. According to Gaza’s health ministry, seven more Palestinians have died due to famine and malnutrition, bringing the total hunger-related death toll to 154. This comes after a warning from Euro-Med Monitor about an ‘unprecedented surge’ in deaths among Gaza’s elderly. The group says its field team has documented dozens of elderly people dying in displacement camps from starvation, malnutrition, or lack of medical care. It said many of these deaths, however, are being recorded as natural causes due to unclear reporting mechanisms and families burying loved ones quickly without official documentation.
Russia earthquake fallout
Tsunami waves have hit parts of Russia, Japan, and the United States after a massive earthquake shook Russia’s far east. Almost two million people are told to evacuate in Japan following a warning of waves of up to 3 meters. The 8.8 magnitude quake struck east of the coastal city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in Russia, where several people were injured. Tsunami warnings and evacuation orders were also issued for Taiwan, the Philippines, Hawaii, and Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, with advisories issued for much of the US West Coast. Also, the Klyuchevskoy volcano in Russia has started erupting after the earthquake.
