US-Israeli Gaza genocide

Israeli forces kill dozens of Palestinians in Gaza, despite announcing a so-called tactical pause in attacks for the safe passage of aid into the besieged strip. 32 people were killed while waiting to receive aid since morning. This as the Israeli military announced daily pause in Gaza City, Deir al-Balah and Mawasi, three areas with large populations, to increase humanitarian aid entering the territory. However, several aid distribution centers across the territory were the scene of direct Israeli fire. More than 130 people have died from malnutrition-related causes since the beginning of Israel's onslaught in 2023. The US-Israeli genocide, which began in October 2023, has so far killed more than 59,800 Palestinians.

Gaza humanitarian catastrophe

The World Food Programme says that one-third of Palestinians in Gaza have gone days without food, with nearly half a million enduring famine-like conditions. According to the WFP, a sustained and agreed-upon ceasefire is essential for ensuring humanitarian aid reaches Gaza’s entire civilian population. The UN agency emphasized that critical food supplies must be delivered in a consistent, predictable, safe, and orderly manner across the Strip. It noted that sufficient provisions are currently in or en route to Gaza—enough to support all 2.1 million residents for nearly three months. Following months of a severe starvation campaign, Israel has agreed to limited humanitarian pauses allowing aid into the region. However, aid delivery is still heavily restricted.

US-EU trade standoff

US President Donald Trump says economic relations with the European Union have been unfair and one-sided as he begins critical talks with the bloc in Scotland that could make or break a months-long transatlantic trade standoff. Trump made the comments during a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, just before the two leaders began negotiations. At the heart of the discussions are the 30-percent tariffs the US has threatened to impose on EU goods, starting in early August. Meanwhile, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has confirmed the early August deadline for imposing tariffs is firm, with no extensions possible. He added that no more grace periods will be granted, and the tariffs will take effect as planned.
