US-Israeli genocide in Gaza
The Israeli aggression against Gaza continues unabated, with more civilians falling victim to the genocide. Over two dozen people were killed after Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians near an aid distribution center in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza. Also in the south, a separate but similar attack on Palestinian aid seekers left several people dead. In the al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City, the Israeli military struck the tents of displaced Palestinians, killing at least 6 and injuring several others. The town of Jabalia in northern Gaza was also the scene of deadly Israeli attacks. The US-Israeli genocide, which began in October 2023, has so far killed more than 58,660 Palestinians, also leaving nearly 140,000 others injured. Most of the victims are women and children.
Gaza humanitarian catastrophe
The United Nations is warning that one in three Palestinians in Gaza go without food for days, as Israel continues to block almost all humanitarian corridors inside the territory. The World Food Program wrote in a social media post that people of Gaza are "on the verge of catastrophic hunger." The organization said food aid is the only real way for people to eat. The WFP once again called for an immediate ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian access. Israeli forces have even been shooting at starving people waiting in lines to get food at the aid distribution centers. Human rights groups say the death traps have killed nearly 900 people in recent weeks. Israeli media say the killings are deliberate and ordered by senior regime commanders.
Russia slams EU sanctions
Russia has denounced the European Union’s latest sanctions, warning that the measures will carry consequences for countries that enforce them. The Kremlin’s statement came after the EU on Friday approved one of its toughest sanctions packages against Russia to date. The bloc said the ‘full-fledged’ measures would heavily impact Russia’s energy, banking, and military sectors, as well as its trade with the EU. The new sanctions target 14 Russian individuals, 41 entities, and 105 Russian vessels. Russia’s prominent Nord Stream gas pipelines will also be banned. Additionally, the 27-member bloc imposed new import restrictions aimed at preventing Russia from indirectly exporting crude oil through several non-EU countries. Tensions between Russia and the West further escalated following the failure of recent Ukraine war ceasefire talks.
