Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will meet his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on the sidelines of the upcoming meeting of foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in China.

“Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, will meet his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in China on Tuesday,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told RIA Novosti on Monday.

The talks will be held in the Chinese city of Tianjin, where foreign ministers of the SCO will meet.

Baghaei noted that the two ministers will discuss bilateral ties and the latest developments in the region, including Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

On Sunday, Russia dismissed a US media report claiming that President Vladimir Putin had urged Iran to agree to a zero enrichment agreement with the United States, describing it as “defamation.”

Russia's Foreign Ministry issued a statement, a day after the American news website Axios reported that Putin had “encouraged” Iran to accept a nuclear deal that would exclude uranium enrichment.

The article “appears to be a new political defamation campaign aimed at exacerbating tensions around Iran’s nuclear program,” the ministry said.

Iran has repeatedly stated that it will never accept an agreement that excludes its enrichment rights, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding Tehran's right to uranium enrichment in any nuclear negotiations.

Russia has supported Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy for years.

Last month, the US officially joined the Israeli aggression against Iran by bombing three nuclear facilities in Iran in violation of the United Nations Charter and the Non-Proliferation Treaty, as it joined the 12-day Israeli war on the country.

The strikes came as Iran and the United States had held five rounds of indirect negotiations, mediated by Oman, over Iran’s nuclear program since April, and were preparing to hold fresh talks in the Omani capital on June 15, which was cancelled following the Israeli aggression.

The Israeli regime launched an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on June 13, assassinating many high-ranking military commanders and nuclear scientists in addition to civilians.
