Mourning Ashura
Millions of people across the world, including Iran, participate in solemn mourning processions of Ashura, the tenth day of the Islamic lunar month of Muharram, which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad. People across Iran, dressed in black, gathered to recount the heart-wrenching events of Karbala through ceremonies and rituals that reflect their grief, reverence, and resilience. During the first ten days of Muharram, Muslims, Shias in particular, hold commemorative ceremonies to remember Imam Hossein and his loyal companions. In 680 AD, at the Battle of Karbala in present-day southern Iraq, they were brutally martyred while courageously standing for justice against the forces of the tyrant of the time Yazid.
Hezbollah warns Israel
Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem says the Lebanese resistance group will not surrender to threats by Israel and the US. Sheikh Naim Qassem said that the resistance will not discuss its capabilities under any agreement. He underlined that Hezbollah will not relinquish its rights and is prepared for any confrontation. However, he said they are ready for establishing peace. He said the resistance will not be stopped as long as the Israeli regime persists in its aggression. Sheikh Naim Qassem called the liberation of Lebanon a duty, saying that Hezbollah will continue to confront the enemy and defend the nation. The group’s leader also underlined that Hezbollah will not be part of the project of legitimizing the Israeli regime, calling it an act of humiliation and disgrace.
US-Israeli Gaza genocide
Over 30 Palestinians have been killed in new Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, as the regime's indiscriminate strikes continue to pound the besieged territory. The hardest hit area is the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, north of Gaza City, where at least 21 Palestinians lost their lives in two separate attacks. In one of the strikes, an Israeli bombing on a house sheltering displaced people killed 12 people, while many others remain missing. Another attack in the same area claimed the lives of nine Palestinians. One Palestinian was also killed and many wounded in an attack on a home in the Tuffah neighborhood, northeast of Gaza City. In southern Gaza, five people, including children, were killed and several others injured in drone attacks on tents housing displaced people in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis. The regime’s genocidal war has claimed the lives of more than 57,300 and wounded nearly 136,000 others since October 2023.
