IAEA performance "politicized"
Iran has slammed the double standard adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency in light of recent baseless allegations regarding the country’s nuclear program. Reza Najafi, Iran's Permanent Rep. to UN added that the Atomic Energy Agency reports every single gram of uranium and every centrifuge in Iran to the international community. Given this level of detailed reporting, claims that Iran is not cooperating or lacks transparency are ironic. In his opening address to the Board of Governors, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said the agency cannot confirm the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s activities, criticizing Iran’s lack of cooperation on undeclared sites. This while Grossi emphasized that uranium enrichment itself is not prohibited and that the amount of enriched uranium in Iran is not sufficient to produce a nuclear weapon, explaining that creating a bomb requires highly sophisticated technologies including advanced detonators.
Iran nuclear power generation
Iran is expanding its Bushehr nuclear power plant by building the second and third units of the facility. The reactor is designed in accordance with the standards of the International atomic energy agency. Over 60% of the equipment required to build the new units have been provided by Iranian companies. The head of the atomic energy organization of Iran says the goal is to triple the capacity of the country's nuclear power plants. Mohammad Eslami says the organization is working to incorporate nuclear technology into society and cater for the interests of the Iranian people. The first unit of the Bushehr power plant plays a big role in providing electricity as well as drinking water.
Gazans rising fatalities
The Israeli genocidal war claims the lives of more Palestinian women and children across the besieged Gaza strip. More than thirty civilians have lost their lives in heavy bombings of the Gaza Strip since this morning. According to al-Mamadani Hospital in Gaza City, nearly a dozen people were killed in airstrikes on Shujaya and al-Zaytoun neighborhoods alone. A deadly attack on displacement tents in al-Mawasi in Khan Yunis also killed another six people. Eight others were also killed in Israeli gunfire that targeted Palestinians searching for food near an aid distribution center in western Rafah, southern Gaza. Local health officials say the Palestinian death toll since the October 2023 has approached 55,000 with over 126,600 others injured, the majority of them women and children.
