Israel Syria aggression

Iran’s foreign minister has called on regional countries to immediately mobilize and join forces to stop Israel's aggression and the destruction of Syria. In a post on X, Abbas Araghchi said the Israeli regime has moved to destroy almost every defense-related and civilian infrastructure in the Arab country. He noted that the regime has occupied further Syrian territory in violation of a 1974 agreement with Syria and UN Security Council Resolution 350. Araghchi added that while the regime’s attacks go on, the Security Council, which is responsible for stopping this unlawful aggression, has been reduced to a handcuffed observer thanks to US obstruction. He urged the Arab and Muslim nations as well as all UN members not to remain indifferent in the face of the regime’s aggression against Syria.

Israel law violations

A number of UN experts have censured Israel’s strikes on Syria following the fall of the country’s government as a violation of international law. UN Special Rapporteur Ben Saul has branded the regime as lawless over its Syria strikes. Saul added what Israel is doing in Syria is the continuation of what the regime has been doing in the country for at least a decade. He added that it has been Israel's approach to follow its enemies wherever they are in the world and bomb them. A second UN expert said attacking a sovereign state without provocation is another case of the lawlessness that Israel demonstrates in the region. The expert was pointing to hundreds of preventative attacks launched by Israeli forces in Syria over the years. The regime claimed that its attacks on Syria targeted Hezbollah’s positions, despite the fact that the resistance movement has never attacked the regime from Syria.

Gaza ceasefire resolution

The UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly adopted a resolution, calling for an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip. The resolution was adopted with 158 votes in favor and only 9 votes against. The non-binding resolution demands immediate access to widespread humanitarian aid for the citizens of Gaza, especially in the northern territory. Addressing the UN session, several members of the world body criticized the international community’s inaction in the face of Israeli atrocities in the blockaded territory. Slovenia's UN envoy said Gaza doesn't exist anymore and has been totally destroyed, adding that history is the harshest critic of inaction. The criticism was echoed by Algeria's deputy UN ambassador who said the price of silence and failure in the face of the Palestinian tragedy is a very heavy price, and it will be heavier tomorrow.
