Two Palestinian paramedics killed in Israel’s 'deliberate' strike on ambulance in Rafah
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) says two of its employees were killed in a "deliberate" airstrike by Israel on an ambulance in the Gaza Strip’s southern city of Rafah.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the PRCS said paramedics Haitham Tubasi and Suhail Hassouna were killed while on duty after Israeli forces “deliberately bombed” their ambulance in Tal al-Sultan area, west of Rafah.
It added that the ambulance bore the internationally protected Red Crescent emblem.
The Gaza Health Ministry said the paramedics were on their way to retrieve bodies and wounded people.
It also condemned the attack as a “heinous crime,” saying it confirmed the Israeli military’s “intention to annihilate” Gaza’s health system.
The Wednesday killing brings to 19 the number of PRCS staff members who have been killed since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza.
Israel waged its bloody Gaza onslaught on October 7 after the Hamas resistance movement carried out its historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for the regime’s intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.
So far, the Tel Aviv regime has killed at least 36,171 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 81,420 others.
In what is considered a blatant war crime, the occupying regime has been deliberately targeting clearly-marked ambulances as well as health facilities across the besieged Gaza Strip.
