US-Israeli genocide in Gaza

Israel has launched fresh air strikes on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, killing at least seven people. According to Palestinian media, most of the victims are women and children. The death toll is likely to rise due to the number of seriously wounded people. The attack hit Tal as-Sultan neighborhood in Rafah. It comes as the Israeli military is preparing evacuation plans for the city in anticipation of a ground offensive. The United Nations and many other countries have expressed grave concern over the offensive. The city is home to approximately 1.5 million displaced Palestinians.

Attack on Iraqi military base

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq says it has fired drones at an Israeli position in the occupied territories following an early morning attack on an Iraqi military base. The umbrella group of Iraqi resistance factions has released a video of its attack, saying they targeted a key location in the occupied port city of Eilat. The strike followed a drone attack on an Iraqi military base in the Babylon province. The base is jointly used by the Iraqi resistance group known as the Popular Mobilization Units or PMU, the Iraqi federal police, and the Army. Some Iraqi officials blame the pre-dawn attack on Israel although a PMU statement says the US was behind the incident. According to the chief security official in the Babylon Province, there were five explosions at the base, leaving at least one person dead and several others injured.

Crackdown on pro-Palestine protest

US police have detained more than 100 pro-Palestinian students staging a sit-in on the campus of New York’s Columbia University. The police clamped down on the protesters and cleared an encampment set up by students demonstrating against Israel’s war on Gaza. Several students involved in the protest were also suspended from the university. They include Isra Hirsi, who is the daughter of Ilhan Omar, a Democrat in the US House of Representatives. A university professor, Joseph Howley has criticized the move, saying the university responded to how the students were protesting rather than what they were protesting for. Meanwhile, the students returned to the school premises in defiance and in protest against the University policies. Since the onset of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza, universities across the US have seen a rise in protests and civil disobedience.
