Pakistan strongly condemns terrorist attacks in southeastern Iran

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch

Pakistan's diplomatic apparatus has strongly condemned the recent deadly terrorist attacks on the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

The attacks, claimed by the so-called Jaish ul-Adl terror outfit, targeted in the wee hours of Thursday five public places and military bases, including an Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) headquarters as well as a police station, in the towns of Chabahar and Rask in Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The IRGC said in a statement that the overnight assault was launched with the intention of seizing the elite force’s headquarters in the two towns, but was thwarted by Iran's security forces who lost 10 members in heavy fire exchanges.

In the ensuing clashes with security forces, 18 members of the Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group were killed, according to state media reports.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the recovery of the injured,” Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in a weekly news briefing in the capital.

Stressing that Pakistan stands in full solidarity with the Iranian people and government in fighting terrorism, she said Islamabad condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and is deeply concerned about the growing acts of terrorism in the region.

“Pakistan strongly condemns any terrorist act in its neighboring country Iran,” Baloch said.

“Pakistan is ready for any kind of support in case of any request from Iran, and Islamabad is determined to cooperate with Tehran for a common solution against the threat of terrorism. It is a regional and global threat that requires resolute response."

'Terrorism must be curbed'

Moreover, Pakistan's Ambassador to Iran Muhammad Mudassir Tipu lambasted the terrorist attacks.

“We stand in full solidarity with our brotherly neighbor Iran in fighting terrorism and protecting its interest” he stressed. “Terrorism must be curbed.”

On January 16, Iran launched simultaneous drone and missile attacks on two bases of the terrorist group Jaish ul-Adl, which was formed in 2012 and has conducted several attacks on Iranian soil in recent years.

The terror outfit claimed responsibility for an attack in December 2023 on a police station in the southeastern city of Rask that killed at least 11 Iranian police officers. On January 10, another attack by the group on a police station in the city killed one officer.
