Israeli commander, 2 troops killed as regime presses on with Gaza war
The Israeli military reports the death of a commander and two troops during the regime's ongoing genocidal war against the Gaza Strip.
The military announced the fatalities on Tuesday, identifying the commander as the reservists' Lieutenant Colonel Netanel Yaacov Elkouby.
The 36-year-old died while commanding the 630th Battalion of the Southern Brigade of the Israeli army's Gaza Division.
Citing military sources, The Times of Israel said that the trio had been killed "when an explosive was detonated in a building they were in east of [the city of] Khan Younis" in the southern Gaza Strip.
According to the report, the deaths brought two 232, the number of the Israeli forces, who have been killed since October 7, 2023, when the regime unleashed the war on Gaza in response to Operation al-Aqsa Storm by the territory's resistance movements, during which hundreds were taken captive.
The Israeli military said two more troops were also "seriously" injured in the same incident.
Gaza's resistance movements say the Tel Aviv regime gravely underreports the number of its casualties as means of avoiding public backlash and preserving the morale of its forces.
Since the start of the war, the regime has killed around 28,500 Palestinians, including more than 12,300 children and some 8,400 women.
The resistance groups also assert that the regime has, however, fallen short of realizing any of the goals it has been seeking to achieve through the war, including occupation of Gaza and defeating the resistance.
The Israeli paper, meanwhile, said the regime was "preparing to send representatives to Cairo for the resumption of indirect truce talks," hinting at Tel Aviv's frustration with the military campaign.
