Iran FM urges US to drop language of threat, focus on political solutions

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

Iran’s foreign minister has advised the US to stop using a language of threat against the axis of resistance and instead focus on a political solution to the conflict in the region.

“The US must stop using the language of threat and blame shifting, and focus on a political solution,” Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The minister said Iran’s response in a threatening situation would be “decisive and swift.”

Amir-Abdollahian was referring to threats by American officials to target the resistance forces in the region in response to a deadly attack on a US base in Jordan earlier this week. Some US lawmakers have called for Iran to be targeted.

Washington has blamed Iraqi resistance group Kataib Hezbollah for the attack, which it says left three US soldiers dead and dozens injured. Kataib Hezbollah says it has suspended anti-US operations, but warned Iraq’s resistance will respond to any attack by the US.

On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden announced he has decided how to respond to the attack.

Meanwhile, IRGC Chief Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami has also reacted to threats against Iran, saying the country will respond to any attack by the US.

"We hear threats coming from American officials, we tell them that they have already tested us and we now know one another; no threat will be left unanswered," Salami said.

Iran's envoy to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, also warned on Wednesday that Tehran would respond decisively to any attack on its territory, interests, or Iranian nationals outside its borders.

US bases in Iraq and Syria have come under repeated attacks by Iraq’s Islamic Resistance since early October when Israel launched its brutal onslaught against Gaza.

Washington is widely viewed as an accomplice in the genocidal war on Gaza, providing the regime with tons of arms and ammunition and vetoing UN Security Council resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
