Hamas calls for round-the-clock supply of aid to Gaza amid Israel's deadly aggression
The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has called for a ramp-up in aid delivery to the people in the Gaza Strip amid a devastating Israeli military campaign against the blockaded territory.
In a statement issued on Monday, Hamas urged the United Nations and Arab and Muslim countries in the region to do more to ensure that the Egypt-Gaza border crossing can operate round-the-clock so that aid supply to the territory can increase.
The statement came after dozens of trucks carrying food and medical supplies were allowed into Gaza via the Rafah crossing.
The delivery came after a summit in Cairo to discuss the humanitarian situation in Gaza where senior officials from the UN were present.
However, Hamas said the limited amount of aid supplied to Gaza in the past two days would not be enough to meet the growing needs of the people living under Israeli blockade and aggression in the tiny strip of land on the Mediterranean.
More than 5,000 people have been killed and over 15,000 others have been injured in Israeli airstrikes and shelling on Gaza since October 7 when Hamas launched a multi-pronged operation into the Israeli-occupied territories of Palestine, killing 1,400 Israeli settlers and military forces.
The Israeli attacks on Gaza have targeted places of gathering, including hospitals, schools, mosques and churches, displacing about 1.4 million in the densely-populated region which is home to more than 2.3 million people.
The UN has described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as dire while urging an immediate ceasefire to allow aid to reach the people in need.
The Israeli regime has refused to accept the calls while planning a ground incursion which many believe would only deteriorate the plight of people living in Gaza.
