Iran's foreign minister says war crimes committed by the Israeli regime in its relentless onslaught against the besieged Gaza Strip, prove the regime’s failure in the face of Palestinian resistance groups.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was speaking in a phone conversation with Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn on Saturday.

Iran's top diplomat strongly slammed Israel’s genocidal aggression against Gaza and the regime’s new crimes, including a recent attack on a hospital in the blockaded territory that left close to 500 people dead, and a subsequent attack on a church, which killed a large number of displaced people who had sheltered there.

“Targeting churches and their institutions, along with the shelters they provide to protect innocent citizens, especially children and women who have lost their homes due to Israeli airstrikes on residential areas over the past 13 days, constitutes a war crime that cannot be ignored,”  the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of al-Quds said following the attack.

During his phone call, Amir-Abdollahian said, “All measures taken by Palestinian resistance groups are aimed at countering the [Israeli] occupation in accordance with international law.”

“The Zionist regime’s new crimes, including … continued blockade of this territory to prevent water, food, medicines, and fuel [from reaching the people of Gaza] despite all the efforts made by the Unite Nations, prove the Zionist regime’s failure in the face of Palestinian resistance groups,” Iran's foreign minister added.

Luxembourg’s foreign minister, for his part, expressed hope that tensions in the region would come to a speedy end through a political solution.

Asselborn added that Iran can be of great help in restoring peace and calm to the region through its “constructive and active” role.

Earlier on Saturday, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman censured the ongoing Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip, saying the international community must designate the occupying regime as a “terrorist entity.”

“Following the catastrophic attacks on the al-Ahli Arab Hospital, mosques, schools, and the Greek Orthodox church in Gaza, the Zionist regime has threatened to pound other hospitals in Gaza!” Nasser Kan’ani wrote in a post published on his X account

He also denounced the appalling Israeli atrocities against Palestinians and threats of bombardment of hospitals in the Gaza Strip.

“Such horrendous crimes mean that the Zionist regime has crossed the limits of insanity,” said Kan’ani, adding that they amount to a morally shameful scandal for the governments that have long provided unconditional support to the Zionist regime while preaching others about human rights.

“All people advocating freedom, justice and fairness across the world demand that the Israeli regime be designated internationally as a terrorist entity, and that Zionist leaders be prosecuted and punished as war criminals,” Kan’ani asserted.

Health officials in Gaza say the Israeli bombardments have killed at least 4,385 people since October 7, when fighters from Hamas resistance movement launched an unprecedented large-scale attack against the occupying regime. About 70 percent of the fatalities includes children, women and the elderly. More than 14,000 individuals have also been injured.
