Thwarting Western sanctions
President Ebrahim Raeisi says Iran’s government is pursuing the removal of sanctions during negotiations with the remaining signatories to the landmark 2015 nuclear deal. President Raeisi said the removal of sanctions is not the only issue the Islamic Republic is and has been pursuing. He said the "nullification of sanctions is what Tehran is now focusing on." Raeisi said the government is working to lead the country in a way the impact of sanctions is not felt by the people. He added that despite all sanctions, Iran's oil exports are rising while non-oil exports are at a record high. The president said negotiations will definitely go on if the West behaves in a "fair and dignified manner and on an equal footing." President Raeisi said the International Atomic Energy Agency has confirmed the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program. He said it was the Western signatories who did not abide by their commitments under the agreement.
Iran support for Palestine
The secretary-general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement has praised Iran’s unwavering support for resistance and determination to enhance unity among various resistance groups. Ziad al-Nakhaleh was giving an exclusive interview to Iran’s Press TV news network. Nakhaleh said Iran stands by the side of the resistance and supports the historic rights of the Palestinians. He said Iran is a quote-solid shield in the face of Israel’s acts of injustice and aggression against the Palestinians. The chief of Islamic Jihad also lauded Iran’s role in strengthening unity among resistance factions. Nakhaleh said the Palestinians are now determined to defend their own land.
Sudan conflict
The International Organization for Migration says the conflict in Sudan has uprooted more than two-point-five million people. According to the UN agency, the figure includes about 550,000 people who have fled abroad. This amid clashes grinding on between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since mid-April. Meanwhile, a huge fire has erupted at the intelligence headquarters in Khartoum. Both warring sides now put the blame on one another. Elsewhere in the city of El Geneina in Darfur, witnesses say an increasing number of civilians fleeing violence have been killed or shot at. They have been attempting to escape to Chad on foot since last week.
