Reparations for slavery

The Dutch Prime Minister recently apologized for his country’s colonial past and the enslavement mandated by the Dutch state from the 17th to 19th century. In his remarks which were met with cynicism, he said that slavery must be recognized in "the clearest terms" as "a crime against humanity".

This week we are focusing on the so-called apology by the government of the Netherlands over the country’s role in slavery and the slave trade. Many are skeptical of the apology and are demanding full reparations to the descendants of slaves.

In the second part of our program, we are discussing the historical move by Zimbabwe to ban the exports of unprocessed lithium ore in a move aimed at encouraging value addition.
