‘Iranophobia’ slammed
Iran condemns the unfounded allegations raised in a joint statement by members of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kan’ani says the statement is nothing but a rehash of failed policies to promote Iranophobia. He says such actions are a futile attempt to cover up tension-provoking moves by certain GCC States offering financial, political and logistical support to terrorist groups. According to the spokesman, the destructive policies of certain member states have inflicted massive human and financial losses on the region. Kan’ani urged the GCC states to revisit their approach to regional issues and take a constructive path. In a statement issued at the end of their 43rd summit, GCC member states once again accused Iran of continuing to support terror groups and militia in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen.
Ukraine grain export
Ukraine will continue to export grain from the southern port city of Odesa, despite the recent Russian attacks targeting local energy infrastructure. The Agriculture Ministry says traders are facing problems, but for now there's no talk of suspending shipments. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the latest round of Russian strikes have left more than 1.5 million people without power in Odesa region. Ukraine is one of the largest grain exporters in the world. It resumed shipments in July, after a six-month halt caused by the war. But there have been some disruptions, partially due to the Russian strikes on energy networks since October. Moscow says the strikes are in response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian power lines.
Peru political unrest
Political instability lingering in Peru, where thousands rally in the capital Lima to demand the release of ousted president, Pedro Castilloو who's been in detention for days. The rally was held for the third straight day. The protesters blocked highways and pelted police with rocks. They vowed to continue their rallies until the Congress is shut down. Castillo was detained and removed from office on Thursday. That happened after he tried to dissolve the Congress hours before his planned impeachment. He's now facing criminal charges. Dina Boluarte, Castillo's vice president, was sworn in as Peru's sixth president in five years. Dina Boluarte unveiled her cabinet on Saturday.
